How can you tell if someone has a problem with alcohol?

Answered By Editor

There are a number of ways to know if someone has a problem with alcohol. Over extended periods of use, alcohol abusers will begin to smell like alcohol. The body rids itself of the alcoholic substance through the pores.

Another clue is finding bottles of alcohol in hidden areas. People with drinking problems may try to hide their alcohol where they think no one will look.

When a drinking problem becomes more severe the abuser will experience blackouts and will not remember the time during the drinking. The Alcohol will take its toll on the person's relationships, work, finances and home life. Usually, when confronted, alcohol abusers will deny that they have a drinking problem. They will make up excuses and rationalize their use.
