Is it possible to become addicted to a drug if you have only tried it once?
Answered By Editor
Yes, it is possible and has been known to
happen. However, in most cases, a person
will not become addicted to a drug the first
time they use it. With that said, highly
addictive drugs such as heroin and
amphetamines can create a craving even after
the first use. For this reason, a person who
has tried a drug once may very well wish to
continue using it, thus developing and
dependence and addiction. Having obsessive
thoughts about the drug and creating schemes
to get more of it may indicate increased
addictive tendencies. It is best to view all
illicit drugs as dangerous and not
"experiment" with them. Once a person is
addicted to a drug, the sooner you can help
them get proper substance abuse treatment,
the better chance that person has of beating
the addiction.
