If Marijuana has not been proven very addictive, why is it such a problem?
Answered By Editor
Although it has not been scientifically
proven that neither Marijuana nor its
chemical THC is addictive, there is little
question that people can and do develop a
dependency on this drug. Some people use the
justification that since Marijuana is not
physically addictive, they do not have a drug
problem. This is flawed thinking. Marijuana
can negatively affect a person's life on a
number of different levels. The fact is that
Marijuana decreases short-term memory
capacity, creates confusion, paranoia,
anxiety and restlessness. In addition to
these symptoms, Marijuana can negatively
impact a person's motor skills as well as his
or her ability to feel emotion. Furthermore,
a person taking Marijuana generally combines
other (often harder) drugs with it, thus
abusing the drug and causing addictive
behaviors. Abuse of Marijuana is very
common. As such, treatment for Marijuana
abuse if readily available.
