I smoke two packs of cigarettes a day and I want to quit. How can I do that without going to detoxification?

Can you answer Kino Yuki’s question about Addiction?:

I’ve been smoking for two years. I have a light form of asthma and I want to quit smoking because I feel worse and worse, but I just can’t shake off the addiction. I really need help here.

Addiction Feedback: There was a report in the news that said the same drug that gets people off heroin can help women stop smoking (for some reason it doesn’t work for men). I can’t remember the name of the drug but it wasn’t methadone.

Addiction Feedback: 2 packs a day is too much, im afraid u can’t avoid professional help and u can’t just tell yourself to stop - your body is too much used to nikotine. so u have to go to doctor and after he prescribes probably nicotine drugs or patches. probably drugs

Addiction Feedback: As a nurse, I know there are many hospitals and doctor’s offices who will give free info on quitting techniques and even free nicotine patches to get you started. Also, I find it easier to replace a bad habit with a good one. So next time you want to smoke, do something positive and fun instead, ex: take a walk, dance around to a favorite song, etc…I wish you so much luck!

    Addiction Feedback: YOU CAN WIN!

I was smoking and inhaling 2 packs of cigars a day plus an untold number of cigarettes.

Just quit and think of all the money you will save. Tell all your friends and family that you quit and if your a person of your word. You’ll have to stay clean.

Stay out of smoking environments, take up a hobby, try nicotine gum to take off the edge, go for walks when you get the urge to smoke. Within a few days to a week you will start to notice how bad smokers smell and how good you feel.

Once you’ve gone 3 days to a week you will notice your physical cravings going away. Physiological cravings will last for a little longer, that is why a walk or hobby for a distraction.

My distraction was video games. I was a champ with Tetrus.

I’m 15 years and still clean and I never realized how bad smokers and smoking smelled until I quit.

Addiction Feedback: I’ve known people who have smoked for 40 years and just stopped smoking. Don’t light up! The “addiction” isn’t that strong!
Get tossed in jail and You WILL quit!

Addiction Feedback: Just QUIT, now. Cold Turkey!
When you feel the urge to smoke, engage in an activity that keeps you from lighting up. For example, hop on a bike and go for a ride. Work on an activity that requires two hands, such as knitting. Also, place yourself in non-smoking environments, like a school, where you could volunteer time.
Go for a walk — rain or shine — when you want to smoke. Walk fast.

Addiction Feedback: Think, “I can, I will, I must”

Go cold turkey and think of it as a challenge. If you can make it through 3 days of misery (feelilng like crap) then you’ll be fine.

Addiction Feedback: I just quit smoking last week, smoked for 5 years, it is VERY hard. I suggest going cold turkey it is extremely hard but most people say it is the only way you will stay quit. First get rid of everything in your house that triggers a craving (ashtrays, lighters, etc), then tell everyone you know that you are quitting EVERYONE it will make you feel guilty about lighting up in front of someone. The first three days are very hard but it gradually gets easier after that. You will start to feel better after the first day. Good luck you are doing the right thing.

Addiction Feedback: I suggest cutting down slowly. this way you stay off of them . if you can cut 1 a week by the end of the month you will be down to one pack. Spend a month at that level and start over you can beat it if you stick with it.
