Can you answer angela s’s question about Addiction?:
I know quite a number of people (some of them are my friends) who are alcoholics and do not seem to have any plans of going to alcohol rehabs. I don’t think they understand fully the consequences of their actions. I would like to enlighten them about the negative effects of not getting treatment for their addiction.

Addiction Feedback: Not getting treatment for alcoholism has a lot of risks. The following are some of them:
* They are more prone to engaging in sexual activities and have unprotected sex than teens who don’t drink. This puts them at a higher risk for getting HIV, AIDS, and other sexually-transmitted diseases.
* Death or injuries because of alcohol-related suicide and homicide.
* Death or injuries because of alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes.
* Those who drink are more likely to have problems regarding their conduct and school work.
* Teens who drink are more likely to develop alcohol dependence.
* They are also more likely to be victims of violent crimes like assault, robbery, and rape.
* This could lead to having dual diagnosis.
Addiction Feedback: serious answer:liver damage any thing could kill them. My dad died one week ago of a heart attack between his heart and liver he had no chance get them help i couldnt save my dad so plz save your friends this is not a joke.
Addiction Feedback: Carrie’s answer is right…those are some of the worst / most common risks.
There are more:
terminal stupidity - like the person who drove home drunk, only to find in the morning that they had brought home an unsuspecting guest — impaled on their car. Also known as involuntary manslaughter and a life-long memory.
loss of driving privileges - in California, teens who drink and drive lose the ability to get a driver’s license until they are adults or old enough to drink.
new friends: in California, we have mandatory sentences for driving under the influence. A couple of days behind bars is usually a sobering lesson for most people, celebrities not included.
loss of loved ones: whether the drunk is left by everyone else as they grow up, die or get sober; or whether they accidentally kill their best friend while DUI. Most of the women I have met in a shelter related that their ‘man’ had a drinking problem.
My ex-husband drove away me, our son, his sister and her family by drinking; his dad shot himself the night before Thanksgiving while drinking; his uncle, as a young man, killed his best friend because they were drunk and playing around on a motorcycle.
of course, there is a high side [pardon the pun]: once they’ve drunk themselves into oblivion, their neatly pickled livers and enlarged hearts make lovely teaching aids in the local biology lab or medical school.
Good luck trying to help your friends. Please contact Ala-teen or Al-anon family and get your self some support so you don’t end up sucked into their insanity. They have a thing they call “tough love.” The hardest thing you may have to do is to draw a line / delineate your boundaries…and stick to them to save yourself.
Addiction Feedback: How do YOU know they are alcoholic? Tell the truth now, they just drink more than YOU would like them to. Am I correct?
