Can you answer Wookie turkey’s question about Addiction?:

I myself am a recovering alcoholic and know what it’s like to be an addict, but I don’t really know ho to help a friend that has an addiction. I know that when people tried to help me with my problems I turned away at first and got angry. I think most people do that at first, but I know if my friend gets angry I will lose her, what should I do?

Drug Detox Programs

Drug Detox: A Life Changing Experience

First of all, detox is a term used to define the process of detoxification, which is used to describe the process of removing any toxic waste from the body. Many people today use detox as a way of cleansing their colons of unwanted waste, but for many, detox is more than ridding yourself of a few extra pounds. For many, ridding the body of alcohol and drug remnants and also withdrawing from the use of such is called drug detox. Never, under any circumstances, should a person attempt to perform a drug detox without proper medical supervision.

Drug detox is the first step in a method that will involve the body’s own process of ridding itself of drug chemicals that it has grown to rely on. What most people don’t realize, is that the remnants of drugs or alcohol in a body system of an addict will produce cravings for more unless every one of those remnants is expelled from the body. It is the first and most difficult step for most recovering addicts, who won’t begin the actual recovery process until they complete the drug detox program. Hundreds of drug detox centers are scattered throughout the United States and other countries and can deal with mild to severe addictions to drugs like heroin to addictions caused by anti-depressants and pain killers such as Xanax, Darvocet and Codeine, among a wealth of others.

New medications used in many drug detox facilities enables those withdrawing from drugs of any sort to take prescribed medications to make the process easier and less uncomfortable. Some such drug detox facilities offer closely monitored withdrawal from opiate addictions with a high rate of success. Individual and group counseling is also available at a drug detox center. Staff members encourage patients to talk about their addictions, a main step in the healing process. After the drug detox process has been completed, many drug detox centers also offer drug rehabilitation counseling services as well.

The key to a successful drug detox program is to admit that there is a problem and then to make a decision to so something about it. A drug detox center can help you do just that, and is equipped to help people get off such drugs and abused medications slowly and safely. A drug detox center in hospitals or community settings includes medical and psychiatric support for patients. A good drug detox center will offer more than a room and a bed, but will offer both emotional and caring support for patients and their families. A drug detox center can help not only the person undergoing the detox process, but friends and family when it comes time to offer ongoing support after discharge. Many people are ashamed or embarrassed to admit they have a problem and refuse to go to a drug detox center. But trying to withdraw from drugs on your own is a dangerous and painful process without correct and trained medical supervision. A drug detox center can provide everything someone needs, from medications to counselors for patients. No one should go through the drug detox process alone, and a drug detox center is the best place to undergo this life changing experience.

A Brief Look At The Alcohol Detoxification Program In Washington

The alcohol detoxification program is always the first step in any type of alcohol treatment in Washington. Any kind of treatment program whether intensive, resident, inpatient or outpatient, will always start with the detoxification process. If you are planning an alcohol detoxification program in Washington for someone in your family, and are planning the whole thing by yourself, without the help of an interventionist; it is very important to study the different detoxification procedures well beforehand and then depending on the patient’s file, one should select the program. It is always advisable to talk to the customer service department at one of the treatment centers or speak to a substance abuse officer. Another important thing to do is to check with your insurance provider if they cover the treatment program you are subscribing to.

Let us take a brief look at the alcohol detoxification program in Washington.

Alcohol detoxification is simply a cleansing of the body from toxins accumulated in it due to the consumption of alcohol. These are toxins that are assimilated in the body with the consumption of alcohol over a long period of time. The patient is made to completely stop alcohol. Alcohol is present in different parts of body of an addict; it could be in the liver or kidney or also in the blood. Not only is the alcohol removed during this process but also the un-metabolized alcohol is removed through this process known as the alcohol detoxification program.

Alcohol detox is a part of almost all the alcohol treatment programs in Washington. The main role of this program is to flush all the toxins from the patient’s body. It is necessary so as to avoid any health complications in future that can be cause by the presence of alcohol in the body organs. Also, if the patient has a supplementary health disease, the first step towards curing the disease might be to removing all the alcohol and un-metabolized alcohol portions from the different part of the body organs.

Another purpose of cleansing the body through the detox in the treatment programs is to accelerate the recovery process. The toxins present in the body released after alcohol consumption have the properties of increasing the cravings in the body for alcohol. Therefore flushing out these toxins will help decrease the temptation for the substance and the patient may eventually stop drinking alcohol. This also acts like a motivation for the patients. As the cravings are less and the person finds himself consuming less of alcohol, he or she feels happy about it. However, the alcohol detoxification process is not that easy. Due to the alcohol cessation, many times a patient may get violent withdrawal symptoms. But as with medications and therapies, the urges for alcohol created in the body reduces. The patient starts to feel healthy. This might motivate him or her to work a bit harder towards an alcohol free life.

Alcohol detoxification is generally a resident program. The purpose of this to take the patient away from his or her comfort zone; from the day to day activities or any things which may trigger the temptations for alcohol in the body of a patient. In fact during this period of treatment, the family members are also kept away from the patient. Here in this resident program, the patient is made to completely stop alcohol. He or she is put on a healthy regime under the eyes of the doctor.

As the patient is kept away from alcohol, in a few days, the body of the patient starts reacting to it violently. This is known as withdrawal symptom. Medications are given to control these heavy reactions of the body at the same time the temptations for alcohol also need to be lessened. This is a very natural process after the alcohol consumption to the body is stopped. Antabuse, Campral, Naltrexone and Nalmefene are some of the medications that are used. These medications help patient to reduce their cravings for alcohol. The alcohol Detox process takes from about three days to several weeks.

The last of the withdrawal symptoms marks the end of the alcohol detox process. But usually the medications are not completely stopped then. They are continued after the detox process and are made to stop gradually. If the medications are stopped immediately, there is a possibility of the patient getting withdrawal symptoms from the medications too. This is quite often seen with the patients who have been very heavy alcohol addicts. Therefore depending upon the patient’s stability, the length and the extent of his or her withdrawal symptoms, the medications are reduced with a patient.

Alcohol Abuse Treatment

The Common Problems Associated With The Addiction Treatment Program In Montana

There are various centers in Montana that offer a neatly planned addiction treatment program, whatever the kind of addiction may be. But there are some common problems faced by all these treatment centers in order to help their patients come out of addiction. The two biggest problems that make the success rate of the addiction program in Montana go down are denial and codependency.

But the state substance abuse authorities are carrying out various actions and programs to fight with these two things. It is much necessary to know denial and codependency factors so as to understand the problems faced by the treatment centers in Montana.

The Problem Number 1: Denial

The number of addicts is going up but the number of patients getting admitted to the treatment centers in Montana is still low. This shows that they are many addicts who are still denying that they need any treatment. This is a very common problem that the addiction programs are facing in each and every state of America. Denial is a phase where the addict refuses to take a treatment and unless and until he or she overcomes this phase it is very difficult for the treatment program to work effectively.

Most of the addicts who are in denial mode are unaware about the dangers of their addiction and according to them they are not doing anything wrong for others so they want everyone else to just leave them alone. Such addicts will think that they are in their limits and don’t need any treatment.

Their families are most of the time unaware about their loved one’s addiction habits and thus there is no one to force them or convince them to join a treatment program. Some of the addict’s even neglect the constant pestering of their family members for joining an addiction treatment. Thus the addict is going deeper into their addiction.

If you are also finding it difficult to convince your loved one who is into addiction, to take a treatment, then best way is to take help from an intervention of an addiction treatment program in Montana. Intervention program has many responsibilities and their one important responsibility is to help addicts to come out of their denial mode and join a treatment program. The intervention program along with the group formed by family and friends of the addict will make a plan to motivate and encourage the addict to join a treatment program.

The denial phase will surely pass with all these efforts and the patient will readily join a treatment program in Montana and will surely come out of their addiction.

The Problem Number 2: Codependency

Codependency is the second hurdle why addicts are not joining the treatment programs for getting out of addiction. The main cause of this problem is the family of the addict and the family’s behavior towards the addict. Many times the family of the addict tries to put a cover over the addiction of their loved one. The family members do this out of love for the addict but this makes the addict think that they can do whatever and have any kind of addiction still they will be loved.

This makes the addict more confident into their addiction habits and pushes the addicts to do the addiction without any fear. This type of codependency is very risky for the addict’s life. Thus in a way the family is pushing their loved one into deeper addiction and before they will realize it, it will become too late to act.

There are other kinds of families too. These families will have fights and arguments, as they dislike their loved one getting addicted to some substance. The fights and abuses will make the addict feel unloved and uncared. This will make the addict stressed out and out of sadness they will start consuming the addictive substance in greater quantities and in large number.

The codependency problem is the major block in the success of the treatment program in Montana. This problem is tackled by giving out proper counseling to the families of the addict. This way the families will be told what they should do and how they should behave with the addict in order to help the addict join a treatment program.

The counseling will help the families and give them various ways which they can try to make their loved one who are in an addiction to understand the seriousness of their condition and take up an addiction treatment program in Montana as soon as possible.

Drug Addiction And Recovery

Addiction Recovery Is Possible Now

Addiction to anything is harmful. Some kind of addictions is less harmful, while some others can assume life threatening proportions. Alcohol addiction and drug addiction falls in this category. Alcohol abuse is a very common malady that is affecting even the best talented persons in our country. However, holistic addiction treatment methods are found to be fruitful to lead addicts on the path of recovery.

Most of the unfortunate souls caught in the tentacles of addiction never realise its dreadful impact till very late. Many end their lives as total wrecks. Another very pathetic aspect of alcohol or drug addiction is that it is not only the addict that suffers, but his family members, friends etc are forced to suffer the brunt. They never get a peaceful and fruitful life when such an addict is part of their life. This makes it all the more important to try addiction recovery treatment as early as possible.

Addiction is like quicksand. Once somebody falls into it, there is no recovery without any outside help. This outside help can come in the form of addiction treatment and rehabilitation centres. There are basically two types of addiction treatment. The effectiveness of these two differs vastly due to their varied approaches. The older type addresses only the physical aspect of addiction, while the new holistic approach treats the mind as well as the body of addict and rehabilitates him or her back into the society.

The speed of recovery depends on the level of cooperation from the addict himself. The emphasis is on self education. The addict is made to understand the pitfalls of addiction so that he willingly stays away from drugs or alcohol. The induction of holistic addiction treatment methods has greatly increased the reliability of rehabilitation. The number of recovered addicts in our midst vouches for this fact.

In most addiction cases, it has been observed, that the human mind plays an all important role in making a person an addict. Most people resort to alcohol and drug abuse to escape from the painful realities of life. So it is very important to help the addict gain a certain level of mental strength to cope with everything that comes before him. Holistic addiction treatment gives more emphasis to this.

Addiction treatment starts with the analysis and detox stage. Detoxification is a stage where the body of the addict is cleansed of any harmful remains of chemical toxins induced due to prolonged addiction. These toxins make the addict crave for more intoxicating substances all the time. This craving disappears after detoxification.

However, the real challenge starts here. If the addict is discharged at this stage, it is hundred percent sure that he or she would again relapse into addiction as the main culprit, the mind, is still not cured. The second stage, which is designed to address the mind, starts now. Proper counselling, group activities and the likes help the addict to gain self confidence, courage and wisdom. It is heartening to note that most addicts who went through this step of addiction recovery have found a new life after graduating from the asylum.
